On Saturday, November 12, from 12-5pm, we are hosting a day of Health and Self-care at StarFish Dance & Yoga. Although the world can feel crazy lately, we are blessed to be surrounded by some amazing practitioners doing the nitty-gritty work of helping people stay healthy, vibrant and engaged nonetheless. As inside, so outside, we are all intertwined and the Healthapalooza is an opportunity to find support, inspiration and resonance to create as much integrity as possible between your inner and outer world.
For this first go-round (we hope to have these events seasonally) I have invited 6 amazing women who are experts in their field. Read below to find out who they are, why I chose them and when they will be presenting:
12:30-1:00pm – Nina Manolson has over 25 years’ experience in the health and wellness field and is the recipient of the prestigious Integrative Nutrition Health Leadership Award. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Certified Holistic Health Coach, Certified Psychology of Eating Coach and Teacher, and the author of Feed Your Kids Well in a World That Doesn’t: An everyday guide to making healthy food happen in your home and beyond. Nina is also a Bodyworker, Bodywork Teacher and Yoga Teacher.
I invited Nina because I do believe that the way we feed ourselves, the way we nourish ourselves, relflects on everything else in our lives. Often my husband and I joke about how things going wrong in the news are a result of malnourishment. We have a giggle about it, but I feel there is a lot of truth in this. Poor diet can be blamed for mental disorders, physical exhaustion, diseases of all kinds, addiction… seriously. What if being well-nourished and healthy is our birthright? Come explore this with ut. Aside from nourishment, Nian teaches about self-love. There will be edible treats in this part of the presentation.
1:15-1:45pm – Sheila Peters is an Energy Medicine Practitioner, Reiki Practitioner, and has been dancing professionally for over 35 years. Sheila creates classes, workshops, and private sessions that utilize energy medicine principles and movement skills to help increase vitality, reduce stress and anxiety, strengthen the immune system, improve focus and concentration, aid both personal and working relationships, and facilitate transformational change. She holds a BA in Dance and a MS in Leadership.
I invited Sheila because feeding ourselves energetically is also crucial to our health. I have been working with Sheila for several years and she has guided me through some pretty scary times in my life. With her gentle, yet wise words and practices, she has shown me how to restore and balance my energy field so that the decisions I make come from a core place of integrity within me. She has strenghtened my belief and my skills in how changing the inner life can change the world on the outside… sometimes instantly. Sheila will be leading us in energy practices that you can take home with you!
1:50-2:20pm – Linsey Hurley is a certified Holistic Health Coach and has been working in the Health and Wellness field for over 25 years. Certified in Bach Flower Therapy and Reconnective Healing, Linsey utilizes many different modalities such as essential oils, homeopathy, and low level laser therapy in her practice. Linsey now focuses her time on BEMER therapy, which is an exciting new medical technology that enhances circulation at the capillary level, and therefore stimulates the body’s own self-healing capabilities.
Linsey, a wonderful healer, will be bringing the BEMER with her. We might actually have 2 BEMERS on site that day!Come expereince this cutting edge technology, that is being used all over Europe, for stimulating capillary activity! The BEMER works so well with all that we offer at the studio to help bring people deeper into their bodies. For me, the BEMER has been a way to recover faster from injury, get better sleep and calm my nervous system. Come experience what the BEMER can offer you.
2:30-3:00pm – Sunshine Beeson is a certified Iridologist and does holistic coaching and counseling work. Her training includes Western Herbs, Diet & Nutrition, Chines Herbs, Ayurvedic medicine, Aromatherapy, Bach Flower Essences, Psychology/Counseling. She had been initiated by Native American Southern Ute Tribal leaders to facilitate sweat lodges for the past 25 years. Sunshine teaches Inspiral Yoga at StarFish on Wednesdays at 8:30am.
Shine just recently moved to the East Coast from Durango, CO. Over the summer, I had a chan ce to experience Iridology and holistic coaching with her. Iridology is a way to diagnose what is happening in the body by looking at the iris of the eyes. She helped me identify several nutritional changes that I make as well as several emotional issues that were making me feel stuck in my life. Wow and breakthrough! Once again, another modality that goes inside to make the change that becomes the beatiful action in the world! Come learn about this amazing diagnostic tool! Shine is bringing the eye charts!
3:15-3:45pm – Lisa Pearl, MS, RD, LDN, CEDRD, CEDS, is a licensed clinical nutritionist and eating disorder specialist. She is the founder of CNC360 as well as a clinician with over 30 years of experience in providing treatment, education, training and mentoring in the field. Lisa’s services include nutrition therapy, case consultations, and professional supervision. Lisa teaches Nia at StarFish.
I have known Lisa Pearl for a long time as a fellow dancer and woman commited to cultivating space for love of the body. Recently we attended the movie Embrace, which deals with body image in our culture and a whole conversation has sprung up about ways in which we can create a world in which we can use our energy and power for positive change and not for feeling bad about ourselves, our bodies or our not being “enough”. Come join the conversation. We need all of us, our collective creativity ignited to elevate the ways in which we imagine ourselves into the future!
4:00-5:00pm – Lissa Fountain is a Leading Svaroopa® Yoga and Meditation teacher, as well as an assistant teacher at Svaroopa® Vidya Ashram. For 18 years, she has been teaching yoga and meditation classes and offering Yoga Therapy throughout Metro-west Boston. In 2008 she was invited to become a national teacher for Svaroopa®Yoga and Meditation, and teaches at StarFish on Thursdays at 10:00am.
Lissa is offering a Svaroopa class. Yet another way to soothe the soul through the body. Svaroopa (pronounced “svah-roo-pah”) is a healing style of yoga that uses a variety of unique poses to create a deep release of tension throughout the body. The experience of a significant reduction of tension, leaves the body feeling flexible, supple and rejuvenated. And this is how our day will end
Please come for the whole day if you can! Tell your friends and bring them along. We look forward to seeing you! It would be great to get an RSVP, if you are one of those people who likes to commit!
In Peace, Joy & Health,
Maria Skinner, StarFish Dance & Yoga
